SAVE OUR PARKS

In August of 2024, Florida’s Governor and the DEP unveiled the Great Outdoors Initiative, proposing golf courses, resorts, and pickleball courts in nine state parks, including two 18-hole courses in Jonathan Dickinson State Park, threatening over 1,000 acres of critical habitat. With only a week’s notice before the public meetings, Luca drove 1,800 miles to document the parks and, working solo, created a short film exposing the risks of the plan while celebrating the parks’ natural beauty. He shared the film just three days before the meetings, and it quickly went viral, sparking massive public outcry. Within 48 hours, the initiative was withdrawn, the meetings were canceled, and Luca received confirmation that the governor’s office had watched the film. This victory was a powerful reminder of the collective strength of the community, with thousands of people coming together to protect Florida’s parks. However, the fight to preserve these lands is far from over.
