Biography

Luca Martinez is a conservation filmmaker and speaker. Through his work and advocacy, Luca has introduced the beauty of the rarely experienced Florida Everglades to more than 500 million worldwide viewers. When not in the field, Luca speaks globally about the wonders of wetlands and believes storytelling is key to raising awareness and inspiring action. Recently, he spoke at Columbia University and the US embassy school in Cairo, Egypt, about the Everglades and the impact of youth voices in conservation.

Luca has been featured in numerous media stories and, most recently, won an Emmy for his story "Luca" on Don't Trash Our Treasure. His photos and videos of the Everglades are the central feature of the 'River of Grass' Exhibit in UNESCO's World Heritage Collection on the Google Arts & Culture Platform. Currently, Luca is working on a docuseries, focusing on a number of wildlife and human stories nationwide.

Deeply passionate about inspiring others to preserve the South Florida ecosystem, Luca has witnessed wild Florida being traded away for development. This has fueled his mission to rewrite its future.

Luca says, "Every single year, 100,000 acres of wild Florida are lost to development; that’s 12 acres per hour. Our relationship with this land will determine its fate, and the fate of the land will ultimately determine our own." He hopes to continue this work forever.
